Rejuvenation Mechanism of Asphalt Mixtures Modified with Crumb Rubber

چکیده
Asphalt aging is one of the main factors causing asphalt pavements deterioration. Previous studies reported on some benefits rubber mixtures through laboratory evaluation. A field observation various pavement sections crumb modified friction courses (ARFC) in Phoenix, Arizona area indicated an interesting pattern transverse/reflective cracking. These ARFC were placed several years ago existing jointed plain concrete for highway noise mitigation. Over years, shoulders had very noticeable and extensive cracking over joints; however, driving lanes showed less formation severity extent. The issue with this phenomenon that widely adopted theories stem from continuum mechanics materials layered systems cannot directly explain phenomenon. One hypothesis could be traffic loads continually manipulate time, which causes maltenes (oils resins) compounds absorbed particles to migrate out leading rejuvenation mastic mixture. To investigate validity such a hypothesis, experimental testing was undertaken condition samples without dynamic at high temperatures. This followed by creep compliance indirect tensile strength testing. results higher aged loading compared those loading. Higher attributed flexibility due maltenes. also supported fracture energy obtained conditioned

An overview of crumb rubber modified asphalt
Roadways are considered one of the most important elements of infrastructure and they play an essential role in our daily lives. In road pavement construction, the use of crumb rubber in the modification of bitumen binder is considered as a smart solution for sustainable development by reusing waste materials. It is believed that crumb rubber modifier (CRM) could be one of the alternative polym...
متن کاملPerformance Improvement of Porous Asphalt Mixtures using Crumb Rubber and Steel Slag Powder
In recent decades, porous asphalt has been extended for surface drainage in various regions throughout the world. The permeability of porous asphalt has an important role in the performance of asphalt pavements in the rainy weather. The most remarkable problem related to the porous asphalt is its short service time. Considerable efforts have been made to enhance the mechanical properties of por...
متن کاملA Study on the Rheological Properties of Recycled Rubber-Modified Asphalt Mixtures
Using waste rubber in asphalt mixes has become a common practice in road construction. This paper presents the results of a study on the rheological characteristics of rubber-modified asphalt (RMA) concrete under static and dynamic loading conditions. A number of static and dynamic creep tests were conducted on RMA mix specimens with different rubber sizes and contents, and a series of resonant...
متن کاملA Review on Using Crumb Rubber in Reinforcement of Asphalt Pavement
An immense problem affecting environmental pollution is the increase of waste tyre vehicles. In an attempt to decrease the magnitude of this issue, crumb rubber modifier (CRM) obtained from waste tyre rubber has gained interest in asphalt reinforcement. The use of crumb rubber in the reinforcement of asphalt is considered as a smart solution for sustainable development by reusing waste material...
متن کاملConcrete with Crumb Rubber from Used Tyres
This study aims to determine the influence of the substitution of a variable volume of aggregates on a concrete by an equivalent quantity of crumb rubber (CR) obtained from used tyres. The physical and mechanical properties of different concretes, which were developed through laboratory tests, have been studied for this goal. The experimental method employed is based on the production of a refe...
